Down 3-0, the Ducks score six straight

After one period, this looked like another long night in Anaheim. Ottawa led 3-0, and the Ducks had lost seven of their last eight.

Then everything flipped. Anaheim scored the next six goals, three in the second period and three in the third, and beat the Senators 6-3 at Honda Center on Día de Muertos night.

The power play flipped the game

Ottawa came out flying. Philip Tomasino, Claude Giroux and Michael Amadio all scored in the first period, and Ottawa’s offense looked like it was rolling for a second straight night.

But the Senators kept going to the penalty box, and Anaheim made them pay. The Ducks came in with one of the league’s best power plays, and on Sunday it scored on four of five chances. A five-minute major to Ottawa’s Stephen Halliday didn’t help.

Anaheim tied it 3-3 by the end of the second period, then pulled away with three more in the third. The Ducks outshot Ottawa 33-23 for the game.

Top performers

Leo Carlsson ran the show with three assists, two on the power play. Roger McQueen scored a power-play goal for Anaheim.

What it means

For Anaheim, this was a badly needed win. The Ducks had lost seven of eight and blown third-period leads in back-to-back games. This time they were the ones coming back. They’re now 6-7-1.

For Ottawa, it’s a tough way to finish a long road trip. The Senators were playing the second night of a back-to-back after beating San Jose 5-1 on Saturday, and they ran out of gas. They fall to 9-6-1.

Your call

Three goals down, six goals up. So tell me in the comments: is this the night that turns Anaheim’s season around, or just one good night?
