Eagles at Commanders Recap

Six straight: the Eagles’ free fall continues

For about 20 minutes on Sunday night, it looked like the Eagles might finally snap out of it. They led Washington 10-0 in the first quarter. Then the Commanders scored 27 straight points and won 27-10.

Philadelphia is now 2-6 and has lost six games in a row. That’s the franchise’s first six-game losing streak since 2012.

How it slipped away

The start was everything Eagles fans wanted. Jake Elliott opened the scoring with a field goal. Then Zack Baun recovered a Commanders fumble, and Saquon Barkley scored on a 3-yard run off a direct snap to make it 10-0.

Then Washington took over. Jayden Daniels found Stefon Diggs for an 8-yard touchdown to tie it in the second quarter, and kicker Drew Stevens did the rest. He made four field goals, including a 56-yarder, as the Commanders pulled away.

With Jalen Hurts out, backup Tanner McKee made his third start and spent much of the night under pressure. Washington sacked him five times. The Eagles’ last real chance ended when Elliott’s 41-yard field goal try hit the left upright in the fourth quarter. A late Commanders touchdown sealed it.

Top performers

Daniels didn’t put up huge numbers, but he didn’t turn the ball over, and the win was his first since October 2025. Washington also ran for 135 yards, while Barkley was held to 30 on 13 carries.

Where things stand

The Eagles haven’t started 2-6 since 1999. They’re still in the NFC East race on paper, but the margin for error is gone.

Things don’t get easier. The 4-2-1 Giants come to Philadelphia next Sunday.

Washington improves to 2-4-1 and hosts the Rams next week. Sunday night might be the start of a turnaround in D.C.

Your call

Six losses in a row and no Jalen Hurts. So tell me in the comments: can the Eagles still save this season, or is it time to start thinking about next year?
